# Poet Land Press Launches, Offering Writers Full Rights and 90% Royalties
**The nonprofit imprint of Poet Land Foundation will publish poetry, nonfiction, and literary work that commercial publishers pass on for lacking mass-market appeal.**
PORTLAND, Ore., [Launch date] — Poet Land Foundation today launched Poet Land Press, a nonprofit publishing house for poetry, nonfiction, and literary work. Authors published by the Press retain full rights to their work and keep 90% of royalties from sales, a structure the Foundation says is designed to put the economics of publishing back in writers’ favor.
Poet Land Press operates under editorial independence: an editor-in-chief and a volunteer editorial board select works for publication without interference from the Foundation’s board of trustees. Because the Press is mission-funded rather than profit-driven, it can publish literary work with high cultural value even when that work isn’t a commercial fit for traditional houses — what the Foundation calls its “hybrid publishing advantage.”
The Press holds no ownership stake in any work it publishes. Proceeds from sales go back into the Foundation, funding future micro-grants to other artists.
“For too long publishers have been playing it safe,” said David Audley, President of Poet Land Foundation. “Poet Land Press is here for the unsafe. Those works that conventional presses will pass over because they can’t see a market. We know there is a market. We are the market.”
Poet Land Press titles will be distributed as print and e-books on major digital platforms, with select physical retail placement where appropriate. The Press is now open for submissions from Pacific Northwest writers.

**Grants of $500–$1,000 will fund supplies, studio time, and project costs for new and emerging Pacific Northwest artists.**

The Foundation runs two linked programs: a micro-grant fund that puts small, fast awards directly into artists’ hands, and a digital-first publishing house that lets writers keep their rights and the bulk of their royalties.
Most emerging artists face two separate obstacles: the cost of making the work and the difficulty of getting it in front of readers.
